Information on Sleep Medication

Established medication is one way to a better evening of sleep but never think about sleep medication as something that ought to be a first resort. Don’t forget that physician prescribed chemical sleep aids should be the very last recourse for those still unable to sleep after endeavoring everything else. Medicinal drugs exist that can assist, but it is best to attempt medications that are not believed prescription only medicine.

Sleep Medications

Over the counter sleep medication is going to contain elements that are designed to put you into a relaxing sleep. The primary ingredient is often tryptophan a synthetic that boosts melatonin and serotonin both of which are utilized by the body to sleep. A lack of these two elements within the body can make things hard when it comes to falling asleep or the inability to sleep well.

Most over the counter sleep aids come in addition to painkillers like the ones that soothe headaches or medications for muscle aches. These should be considered after safer ways of getting to sleep have not worked or have proven to be ineffective in resolving the problem. If over the counter medications are not providing you with results that are helping you sleep, then you may have to discuss the situation with your primary health care provider.

There are a number of solutions that your health care provider can give you when it comes to a restful night’s sleep with the first to consider or determine is exactly what is malfunctioning in you normal sleep process. If you have already considered physical things such as lighting and temperature and your bedtime routine is the same every night there could be other forces at work causing you poor sleep.

For example, you may experience restless leg syndrome or you may be someone who is a light sleeper and somewhat insignificant noises wake you up. If this is the circumstance then you may need additional help by getting a prescribed sleep aid from your doctor. These alternatives could be pain killers, muscle relaxing pills or simply medications strictly listed as sleeping aids and made to work like a strong tranquilizer.

These medications are usually designed to knock you out quickly and put you in the right frame body and mind to be in the right mood to get every chance at a deep sleep. Sometimes these doctor prescribed medicines solve problems such as those found with light sleepers. These types of medications have potential misgivings in that they can make you sleep too long or too deep if you need to get up prior to your full eight hours of rest. You need to remember that any prescription medication should not be taken every day and are issued only when you need a few days sleep.

It is a good idea to look into many different things to help you sleep before looking into prescription sleep medication. If nothing else helps though then looking into obtaining a good night’s sleep through the use of medication could be the most effective way to establishing a regular, natural sleep life.

All Natural Pain Relief

There probably isn’t a person on this planet that hasn’t suffered pain at some point and the reason we have this distasteful experience is as a defense against continuing a particular action; like a person who picks up something heavy and hurts their back, so the pain stops them from picking up anything else. Pain can come from any type of injury, illness or condition but it is then our job to locate where the pain is originating from to stop it. Normally once the cause of the pain is treated, the pain will gradually disappear but not always.

Pain Relief

This is called ‘chronic’ pain and is distinguishable from ‘acute’ pain by its persistence and common examples of chronic pain include backaches, migraine headaches, and arthritis. Around the world, many people live with chronic pain throughout their lives and it can happen at anytime for almost any reason. It is also true to say that many people that suffer with chronic pain no longer have the condition which caused the problem as it has long since been cured but the pain persists, blighting their lives and gradually getting worse.

The problem with prescription medication is that it is easy to become dependent and as time progresses the drugs become less effective but the dependence remains; or there are serious side effects to be considered and many are now turning towards natural pain relief treatments as long term alternatives. Although there are a number of natural pain relief systems in use, probably the most often used is acupuncture especially by those who unfortunately suffer with chronic pain. This method of pain relief has been used successfully in China and the East for many thousands of years.

Patients with conditions like severe back pain, migraines and arthritis claim it makes their condition much more bearable and relieves pain more than any conventional treatment they have used. Other alternative therapies are used to provide natural pain relief like herbal remedies which can also make claim to being side effect free. Herbal remedies can supply a number of natural pain relief treatments like the use of Emu oil for someone suffering with arthritis.

The downside of herbal treatments used is they often take longer to achieve noticeable results; the upside is that you aren’t introducing man-made foreign compounds into your body, and run less risk of side effects or damaging your overall health. If the truth be known then one way of even having to avoid natural pain relief is to change the way you life by eating healthier which means cutting back on processed foods but increasing your intake of fruit and vegetables. People often underestimate the need for proper sleep and disregard any advice on regular exercise like walking and refraining from using the elevator to use the stairs, both of which are good for the heart.
